Setting up a content plan for your SEO campaign is very important and easy to do. Simply put: make sure the keywords for your campaign appear on your website. Sounds easy enough, right? Well, it is. Just make sure to weave your keywords into your content as best as possible and prove to the search engines that your content is relevant for the phrases that you are targeting.

Our role as an SEO team is to make sure that your website’s content is properly optimized. We understand that the content on your site is extremely important. Like the design of your site, it is a reflection of you and your firm.

The question then becomes, how aggressively do you want your SEO team to optimize your site? Would you say, “I could care less what my content says, I want to rank high no matter what,” or would you say, “My brand is more important than SEO. I don’t want to see keywords anywhere”? Or are you somewhere in between?

Using a scale like the one below, your SEO team should find out what option best suits your needs:

I could care less what the content says, I want to rank high no matter what.
(Title tags, headlines, subheads, content editing, footer, and alt tags will all change.)

Edit away, I want to see high rankings.
(Edit title tags, headlines, content, footer, and alt tags.)

I want a mix of solid SEO and solid aesthetics.
(Edit title tags, headlines, alt tags, footer, and potentially some content.)

My brand is more important than SEO.
(Edit title tags, alt tags and footer. Do not touch my content.)

I don’t want to see keywords anywhere.
(Edit title tags only. Under no circumstances should you touch our content or design.)

Typically, the default position is #3, a mix of solid SEO and solid aesthetics. Specifically, your SEO team should optimize your title tags, meta descriptions, alt tags, header, footer, and weave your keyword phrases into your content.

Decide what approach best fits you and what plan of attack will help build the relevancy back to your website.

So you want to create a responsive website but don’t know what sizes you will actually need to design for. This is a common question. A lot of different devices can display your webpage, so should you design for them all?

Designing for all devices may be impossible as there are an infinite variety of devices that you can view a website on. When designing for a responsive site, it is best to consider what the majority of people are using and start there.

Top 3 Most Popular Widths for Web-Viewing Devices

The three most commonly used devices are:

iPhone / Droid – 480px wide

iPad / Tablet – 768px wide

Computer – greater than 960px wide

You should consider the width of these three devices when creating a responsive website. However, keep in mind that you can design for many other widths such as small smart phones (320px) and small tablets (640px). However, 480, 768 and 960 are the three widths that are the most mandatory to design for when considering responsive design.

Helpful Tools for Testing Screen Width

Below are a few helpful tools to utilize when creating a responsive design:

Test how your site looks on various devices with different widths

Convert your main navigation into a dropdown for mobile width

Helpful photoshop grid for responsive design

Fluid grid calculator

Resize your browser to see how your website will look on various size screens

Many law firms include a contact form in their law firm web design. Below are a few best practices for web contact forms.

Short

Keep your form as short as possible. Try to just ask for name, number and phone. If needed, also ask about their case. The more fields you include, the more likely the reader will stop filling out the form.

Simple

Don’t ask for every detail of the case. You are likely going to call the person back. Ask them questions on the phone and keep the form short (see above).

Above the Fold

Contact forms above the fold are more likely to be filled out. “Above the fold” is an industry term that refers to the browser’s viewable area when the site loads. Also, try out contact forms on the sidebars, footer and even pop-up overlays.

Confirmations

Always have a confirmation page. Let the user know when and how you are going to respond. The confirmation page is great time to set expectations regarding your contact method, speed and qualifications.

Call People Back

People are eager to get in touch with you. Call them back the same hour if possible, definitely same day. If you wait several days, they most likely have moved on to another firm.

Assure the User

Assure the user what you are going to do with their information. Have a privacy policy and subscription policy, and do not spam the user after gaining their initial trust.
